Building pan-EU scenarios of local digital twins

Definition of pan-European use cases was in the focal point of the 5th General Assembly of the TwinEU. The event, which marks the start of the 3rd and final year of the project focused on mapping out the remaining tasks to ensure that TwinEU will have an impact not only on a local and regional, but also on a European scale.

During the General Assembly, taking place in Delft, the Netherlands on 27-28th January 2026 the TwinEU consortium agreed on 6 pan-EU scenarios. These use cases are identified throughout the 8 demonstrators of the project, digital twin solutions which are to be tested and validated in other scenarios than their original demo site. This includes:

  • A grid hosting capacity map
  • Co-optimization of the energy and balancing capacity market coupling with dynamic flow-based auction
  • High accuracy forecasting
  • Flexibility management & frequency support
  • System security & stability
  • Digital twin for power line monitoring

Mapping these scenarios will ensure that the solutions resulting from the demos will be tested and validated on different European areas, thus providing outcomes that are scalable and deployable accross the interconnected power system.
